Let’s start with what KHULA! has to share with us.

Khula is a South African agritech startup founded in 2018.

Founded by three visionary minds, Karida Tshintshinolo , Matthew Pipkin and Jackson Dyora , Khula was launched to solve the many challenges faced by farmers in Africa.

On the surface, Khula provides farmers with the software and a platform to market their business.

To aid expansion, Khula recently secured investment from a fund backed by PepsiCo. The funding is from Kgodiso Development Fund, an entity established by PepsiCo South Africa with an initial capital infusion of R600 million ($32.7M). The primary objective of this fund is to support the growth of emerging farmers, with a focus on promoting market-driven programs, fostering collaboration on innovative solutions, and expanding its positive influence through strategic investments.

According to Eugene Willemsen, CEO of PepsiCo Africa, Middle East, and South Asia, this collaboration will lead to substantial and strategic transformations.

Yesterday, news got to us that Nawah Scientific had secured accreditation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its food analysis and safety procedures.

More importantly, she started the creation of ‘Mkulima GPT,’ a Swahili chatbot powered by ChatGPT.

This brilliant creation leverages AI and IoT to assist small-scale farmers.

Theofrida Muginga, founder of Mkulima GPT revealed that they would be working towards including other African languages.

She shared that she was motivated by how farmers were usually left behind in adopting new technology.
